This year will mark the eighth year of the Holy Name Society’s creation of the endowment for the Catholic High School and College scholarships awarded to students who are active members of our Parish. The Holy Name Society dedicated the scholarships in honor of our late pastor, Fr. Domenic Mancini, before his passing.
Over the last seven years, the Holy Name Society has awarded 17 scholarships totaling $15,100. Last year, we awarded two college scholarships; the first was for $1,500 to Eric Diffendal, the second for $750.00 to David Scruppi, and a high school for $750.00 to Audrey Flanagan.
Once again, the Holy Name Society is accepting applications for three scholarships. There are two-college scholarships for $1,500 and $750, which are open to any high school senior who is planning to attend an accredited undergraduate program at a college, university, or educational institution, with a minimum of 12 credit hours in the fall of 2021. The third scholarship of $750 is for any student who is planning to or is currently attending a Catholic High School. If you are going to be a freshman in a Catholic high school during the 2021-2022 school year or are returning as a sophomore, junior, or senior, or if you have previously won the Catholic High School scholarship and are still in a Catholic High School, you are eligible to apply. Download the application and required documents for submitting your application or contact the rectory office to have a package mailed to you.
I would like to point out a change that was made to the college scholarship criteria. There is no longer a minimum cumulative GPA required, all high school seniors regardless of their cumulative GPA can apply. Additionally, with this change we no longer require a high school transcript with your application.
A committee of five people will evaluate the applications for scholarships. The committee will be composed of members from the Pastoral Council, Temporalities ministry, Holy Name Society, and one parishioner selected by Father Harry Bielewicz. The committee will meet and review the applications, which will be anonymous, and evaluate them based on their meeting the criteria established for each.
Applications with the completed essay and other documentation must be submitted no later than Monday, January 31, 2021 with award notification being made by no later than March 31, 2021.
Thank you for your support of the St. Isidore the Farmer Holy Name Society and your participation in this parish based scholarship program in honor of Fr. Domenic Mancini.
